Good resource on PEX pipes for plumbing purposes?

I've heard that PEX (Poly-Ethylene Xylene) piping is very good for plumbing purposes because it can freeze with water inside and have no problems/burstings. I need an intellectual resource that will tell me the prices to look for (I'm cost-conscious, not cheap), any special needs PEX may have (ie, maybe it needs a special bonding agent), common problems when running PEX inside an existing structure (that was originally built for copper), how to identify the quality of PEX, what sizes of PEX are useful for what applications (I have limited PVC experience, so equating the two might be best). And yes, some fries would also be cool. As long as they're warm. Thanks.
