I plan on finishing my basement. A contractor told me I should install a sump pump system to control the moisture. My house is on a hill so water drains away nicely. The basement has never flooded, even during heavy rainstorms, but the walls and floor do occasionally get damp during heavy rain and in the summer when its very humid. I'm thinking a dehumidifier should be enough to control the moisture, but the contractor insists I install the sump system any. Do I really need one?
