4 year old toilet, the brand is Bemis. When I looked at the attaching hardware for the toilet seat, I turned a round nut (?) counterclockwise (it had a single flange on it) 10-12 turns and nothing happened. What am I missing? As you can tell, I'm not an experienced home repair person. Thank you for all your assistance.
