Today, I mixed some drain cleaner NaOH with some Aluminium foil Al, to see some awesome reaction. I knew that the NaOH will react with Al to form Hydrogen gas along with the water and Al(OH)4. After the experiment, the room that I used stank like ammonia. Did the gaseous hydrogen react with the gaseous nitrogen to form ammonia? Does such a reaction happen spontaneously?
