Would any plumbing pipe and clamp do for grounding?

I am going to the hardware store and was wondering if I may buy any plumbing pipe and drive it to the earth and have any c clamp to clamp my copper wire on the pipe. Because I can't find any "grounding clamps" or "grounding rods" here. What length of the plumbing pipe be sufficient for grounding? I am gonna ground my cheater plug's grounding tab...
