How long should a central heating boiler last?

We have a Gloworm condensing boiler, it's about 14 years old. It broke down this week (the internal fan seized) and when the boiler repair man came out he said it was "on a reduced parts list" and that boilers this old wouldn't be accepted onto service contracts. He advised us to get a new boiler this year. Should we listen to him or is it sales spin? BTW the boiler is our only source of heating and hot water (there is no immersion heater on our tank). BTW it is now fixed, I'm just worried how long it will be before it goes wrong again!! (And even more worried whether or not it will be fix-able next time!)
