plumbing best types for good plumbing quality?

I am trying to decide what type of plumbing for my house .I am in arizona phoenix.I heard that copper pipes can get pin wholes in them.Does anyone know how it can take for that to happen? I am also wondering if the copper has to be old to get pin holes.I am redoing the water lines inside my house .I myself am hiring someone.thanks
