water from my sink is draining into my dishwasher how can i drain it so i can use it again?

my sink was stopped up so i used drain cleaner but i noticed that now its going into the dishwasher. i have a garbage disposal if that is helpful to know. im not sure what to do next to unclog whatever is clogged.
