A few months ago I purchased an older home and started noticing some issues with the plumbing. First, the water level in the toilet would be unstable, rising and falling for no reason as well as occasionally being "sucked" loudly down the drain almost as if it was flushing by itself although the water didn't fill back up. Also, about three or four times a day, I can hear a loud hissing sound coming from inside the wall around the bathroom like a buildup of gas escaping from somewhere. I'm hardly a plumber but am competent at some home repair. Before I have to pay for a plumber I'm wondering if this is something that I can fix myself or if it is even a real problem. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
