what are some signs of plumbing leaks?

I hear a tap tap tap every time I flush the toilet and it eventually goes away after a minute, dwindling as it goes. It doesn't happen when I run the sink, just flush the toilet. Is this dripping that I hear? Or is it just the pipes settling? Any ideas?
