pool problem?

A few summers ago, we had a leak detection place come out and fix one of the broken lines from the skimmer for our pool. Everything was working just fine. Then, one of our neighbors works for a pool company, and he came out and fixed some of the grids in the filter that were torn. everything was running perfectly until now. Im not sure what they are called, but the holes on the wall of the pool, that shoot water in to make the water circulate, are blowing dirt and debris back into the pool when we have the creepy crawly hooked up, and now it's doing it even when we just turn the filter on. Its not losing pressure or anything, but i was just wondering if that would be the the outcome if the grids in the filter need to be replaced. They are quite old. Does anyone know if that sounds right or if it could be something else? its an inground pool. Im not sure what size and type of filter we have, but its kinda old. and the reason we had the leak detection people come was because the skimmer would not work. but i know its still working and there is plenty of suction because i got this great idea to stick my hand in the skimmer hole and it sucked my fingers almost all the way in and dropped me to my knees. so that let me know, that its not the skimmer. http://www.bestbuypoolsupply.com/media/unucelfiltergrid.jpg This is what the filters look like
