The plumbing in my house has recently started sounding like there is air in the pipes. What would cause this?

We don't use a city water system, we have a well for our water supply and this has just started happening in the past week or so. The water is "chuffing" although it's not coming out in spurts, it's still a steady stream. It just sounds like there is air in the pipes. Should I be worried?
