I rent in CA, my son has epilepsy and broke the shower plumbing during an episode. Am I forced to pay repairs?

My landlord says it's my son's fault that the shower is broke and therefore I have to pay. That doesn't sound right. It wasn't intentional. He had an epelitic seizure and hit the spicket with his head. Good grief.
