I don't get how you can just leak your water instead of it breaking?

I'm exactly 33 weeks pregnant and just wondering how you know if your water is leaking. How often would it leak out of you? Like every few minutes? Or would it be a constant little trickle instead of a big gush? How would you tell the difference between watery discharge thats normal and your water leaking? Sorry and thank you in advance!
