How do I get rid of a terrible smell from water leak which caused ceiling and wall damage?

Water caused damage to the ceiling and got into wall under the wallpaper. I have contacted insurance and I have to wait for them to do something. But in the meantime, I have a horrible chemical-type smell in my bedroom. How do I get rid of this smell? Thanks!
