How can I make a long straight vertical line with no plumb line and especially no chalk?

I am attempting to hang wallpaper for the first time. Problem is... now I have no money and no chalk. I can probably find some decent string and something sufficient to create a plumb bob... but I definitely have no chalk. This home is old so I cannot trust the edges of the floor or ceiling to be straight. Anyone have any good ideas or recommendations.
