I paid a “professional” plumber to put in the drain system for my new bathroom that will be in the shed I’m building. I asked about a vent at the time and he said because it was just a small bathroom that I could use a “faux” vent once we put all the...

Round Toilet Seats - Big Problem!

I’ve got an older model Mansfield toilet. The bowl empties rapidly, so
I was able to put two large fire bricks into the tank which drastically
reduces water usage with each flush. Don’t worry, the bricks are
standing vertically at opposite ends of the tank. It’s...

Shallow Well, Good for 15 Minutes, then takes hours to Recover

Vent pipe leaking at elbow joint

I have a black pipe that goes through my attic space and out to the roof. I think this is a vent pipe. When it rains, it leaks and is creating a water spot on my ceiling. The picture I took looks like it’s leaking at the elbow joint, as opposed to coming in from the roof.

When my house was built, the 1 1/2" discharge line for the sump pump in the basement was run up and then through the first floor trusses to the outside of the house. There is a backflow valve in the line near the pump, which is a pedestal pump.
The problem is that whenever the...

Moisture inside bathroom wall.

In March I opened up the top ½ of an interior wall (16” x 36”) behind a shower to replace a valve. When valve install was completed the wall cavity smelled musty so I kept it open for a few weeks – I assumed water got in there when the pipes were cut. The musty smell did not go...
